Jurong Country Garden School’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) was authorized as an IB World School in 2016. Our program skillfully integrates the IB PYP framework with the Chinese National Curriculum (CNC). This dual-engine approach empowers PYP learners by nurturing both a national identity and an international mindset, equipping them to transition seamlessly between national and international educational pathways.

At the heart of our PYP is inquiry-based learning, which transcends traditional subject boundaries. The curriculum is organized around six transdisciplinary themes, allowing students to weave knowledge into a coherent network. Through thematic exploration, students master core subjects like language, mathematics, and science while developing intercultural understanding and problem-solving skills in authentic contexts—laying a solid foundation for tackling future global challenges.

UOI Inquiry- Open the Door to the World

Our Units of Inquiry (UOI) are driven by six transdisciplinary themes: Who We Are, How We Express Ourselves, Where We Are in Place and Time, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet. These units break down conventional subject boundaries. Using the world as our classroom, questions as a starting point, and key concepts as a guide, we lead students in authentic, inquiry-based learning. This approach fosters critical and creative thinking, ignites curiosity, and develops five essential skill sets, including communication and self-management.

Immersive English Learning

We use carefully-selected Cambridge English textbooks and a co-teaching model with both Chinese and international teachers. Through differentiated instructions, we inspire students to love learning English, speak with confidence, and use it as a practical tool. Our immersive environment is enriched with specialized electives and regular events like English drama and cultural weeks. Our students consistently excel in external assessments and achieve outstanding results in competitions such as the National Primary School English Proficiency Competition, the CCTV "Star of Outlook" English Talent Show, and Cambridge Young Learners English Tests.

Guided Reading Program

Our Chinese Literature Reading program ensures every student reads 60 full-length works during primary school, with a total reading volume exceeding 3 million characters. This builds profound cultural literacy and critical engagement with texts. Through quality fiction, learners imagine themselves in other situations, reflect on emotions and actions, and develop empathy.

CAS-Extracurricular Activities

PYP offers over 50 CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) activity options, including Fun English Dubbing, STEAM Invention, Fencing, Baseball & Softball, Football, Life Science, Spelling Bee, and English Drama. These activities are designed to spark students' passions and support their holistic development.

Learning beyond Classrooms and Out-reach Program to Develop International Mindedness and Responsibility for the Community

Aligned with the IB PYP framework, our Zhi Xing Classroom (Knowledge in Action) and Yi Xing Classroom (Perseverance in Practice) programs make learning happen beyond the classrooms. Students engage in hands-on, experiential learning within the community. Every fifth-grade student conducts research on real-world issues, gaining knowledge through direct experience. Our Volunteer Club further fosters social responsibility and proactive citizenship through service activities at local welfare centers and other community organizations.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is structured around an integrated, dynamic model. At its core is the learner, who engages in inquiry through the interaction between teaching and learning within a supportive learning community. The curriculum is organized around six transdisciplinary themes, driven by inquiry guided by seven key concepts, the development of five sets of approaches to learning skills, and ongoing assessment throughout the learning process. This framework emphasizes student agency, holistic learning, and developmental assessment.

Academic Programs

Building on the Chinese National Curriculum (CNC), our PYP enhances bilingual instructions, reading literacy, logical thinking, and personal interests through school-based and personalized courses. This creates a curriculum structure with Chinese, English, and Mathematics at its core, supported by a diverse range of elective programs.

Six Subject Areas
  • Languages

The core of language education is to empower students to become multiliterate and intercultural communicators and thinkers. Moving beyond skill acquisition, it emphasizes using language for deep thinking, effective negotiation, and creative expression within authentic transdisciplinary inquiry. We firmly support mother-tongue development as the foundation of identity and cognitive depth, while cultivating an open-minded approach to additional languages. This enables students to connect diverse perspectives and engage confidently in global dialogue.

  • Mathematics

Mathematics is repositioned as a powerful conceptual language and thinking habit. Students move beyond learning algorithms to using mathematical patterns, relationships, and reasoning to understand the world's structure and complexity, model real-world problems, and seek solutions. The discipline emphasizes logical rigor, abstract thinking, and creative problem-solving, enabling students to interpret data critically and apply mathematical tools confidently across science, art, and social studies.

  • Sciences

The Sciences aims to cultivate scientific literacy and an engineering mindset, empowering students to become active investigators and responsible innovators. Through hands-on experimentation and critical questioning, students learn to explore the natural world like scientists and design solutions like engineers. We emphasize the integration of scientific inquiry with ethical responsibility, guiding students to examine technology's impact on humanity and our planet and to contribute thoughtfully to sustainable development.

  • Social Studies

Social Studies guides students in exploring the stories, structures, and challenges of human communities, nurturing them to become critically-minded and empathetic global citizens. The discipline encourages examining local and global issues through multiple lenses—history, geography, politics, economics, and culture—to understand how power, identity, and systems operate. The ultimate goal is to empower learners to recognize bias, evaluate evidence, and make informed, responsible choices based on an understanding of justice and equity.

  • Arts

Arts are an essential mode of knowing and expression within the PYP curriculum. They encourage deep inquiry, emotional communication, and cultural understanding through diverse forms like visual arts, music, drama, and dance. Beyond developing aesthetic sensibilities and creative skills, we treat the arts as a core pathway for expressing complex concepts, reflecting on human experience, and connecting cultures—enriching the creative vitality and humanistic spirit of our entire learning community.

  • Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE)

PSPE is the foundation for empowering lifelong learners and building healthy communities. It systematically integrates social-emotional learning, physical development, and health literacy, focusing on self-awareness, resilience, interpersonal skills, and collective responsibility. Through inclusive physical activities and personal well-being practices, PSPE helps students manage emotions, build positive relationships, and make healthy choices—preparing them for holistic development and meaningful participation in society.

五大要素
  • Units of Inquiry

The Unit of Inquiry (UOI) is a student-centered curricular model guided by transdisciplinary themes. Through structured inquiry and skill development, it fosters deep understanding and holistic growth.

Core Framework of PYP: Six Transdisciplinary Themes

The curriculum is structured around six transdisciplinary themes that guide students in inquiry-based learning.

      Who we are?

      How we express ourselves?

      How we organize ourselves?

      How the world works?

Where we are in place and time?

      Sharing the planet.

Integrating the IB Approaches to Learning (ATL): We focus on developing five key skill sets throughout the inquiry process:

      Research Skills

      Thinking Skills

      Social Skills

      Communication Skills

      Self-management Skills

  • Whole-person Development Programs

Our PYP fosters students’ holistic growth through an educational approach that transcends traditional subjects, focusing on skill development and personal formation. The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a purpose-driven, systematically designed program. It focuses not only on students' individual emotional regulation but also emphasizes interpersonal skills, resilience, and understanding life values. SEL is intentionally integrated with academic subjects, school culture, and family education to foster holistic development.

      Aims and Goals
